Julep Maven June 2015 box - review and swatches

Hi guys,

today I am reviewing one of the subscriptions I am personally subscribed to. I have joined Julep about 3 years ago when there was a huge hype about the brand and the subscription box they were offering to their Mavens. Since I have to say I hardly ever hear anybody talking about them so I thought I will give you a quick overview and show you swatches from the latest box I have recently received for the month of June 2015.
Julep Maven June 2015 box - It Girl! Came with 3 nail polishes, candy and a coupon code.
When you are signing up for Julep Maven subscription, it will guide you through a personal test to see what colors do you prefer and what type of "Maven" you are. When I did my assessment, I got Glam Girl but because I was really focused on nail polish only, I switched my group to It Girl! The good thing about the subscription is that you can change your box based on what is offered each month and if you do not like anything, you can just simply skip it (that's what I do usually as I do not want to completely cancel the box yet). You can also get your first box for one cent and pay separate shipping and handling but sometimes they offer different promotions as well. If you are interested in getting your first box, you can either use my referral link https://www.julep.com/rewardsref/index/refer/id/78917/  or go on their website www.julep.com and sign up from there.
Mara, Juliana and Alyssa
The cost of one month's box is $19.99 but they currently offer different packages thus your price might be different. You can also ad "Adds On" to your box for discounted price. Besides nail polish they also offer make up and from my experience it is a good quality make up. Also, for each purchase you earn "Jules" or so called points that you can use towards your next purchase. You can earn these points when people use your referral link, for your anniversary with Julep and your Birthday, etc.

Besides the subscription you can always purchase items in their online store; however, I do think it is quite overpriced for the quantity you are getting. But you can always apply your Jules towards your purchase as well as using coupon codes that come in your monthly box.

June 2015 nail polishes

Alyssa

The first nail polish I received in my box is this stunning aquamarine green. It is a cream and I was pleasantly surprised that this was actually an opaque one-coater. The application was not too bad either even though the nail polish is a bit thick and it was running down the brush so I had to get rid of the access polish.
One coat of Alyssa
If I would have worn this as my mani I would definitely have done two coats as there is a visible bald spot on my pointing finger. Did not do a second coat this time because the rest of my nails were covered nicely and it might have had been my application of the nail polish causing the bald part.

Mara

Mara was another nail polish that I had no problems with applying it. It spread evenly on the nails and it dries with a textured finish. For this swatch I did two coats mostly because of the nature of the polish but I think you could probably get away with one coat. I also used this polish in a manicure and layered a top coat over it which nicely covered the bumps; so if you do not like textured polishes, this might be your solution.
2 coats of Mara - textured nail polish
I also like the gold glitter running through the nail polish, even though it is not too visible in the picture but in the sunlight you can definitely see it. And the last good thing about this nail polish is that it was absolutely effortless to remove it. This is a unique color in my opinion in the word of "Stardust Finish" nail polishes but if you dislike textured polishes, this might not be a go for you.

Juliana

Now with this nail polish I have nothing nice to say about it. The formula is awful and it was not only running down my brush but also to the sides of my nails. It left gloppy spots and was gathering on the sides and the bottom of my nails as well. The color is pretty but that is all I like about this nail polish. This is an absolute no no nail polish and I would skip it if you were thinking about getting it. In the picture you see two coats...one was not enough and even with the second layer the polish was dragging like a glue. Awful, awful, awful formula!!!
2 coats of Juliana - great disappointment in my opinion
All in all this box was not too bad but the truth is that I am not ordering them often anymore. I fell in love with other brands and I rather prefer not spending too much money on a subscription box and getting the nail polishes that I really like and want. This box was great when I was starting to build up my collection and was figuring out what brands and colors I like.

One thing you need to keep in mind though is something I have only heard about this subscription...and that is that it is almost impossible to unsubscribe. I've heard stories where they do not process your request to unsubscribe and it is difficult to get your credit card information off the list. In my experience, I forgot that my credit card has expired and I did not provide the new info; yet they still were able to charge my credit card and I received my box. So be careful if this is not something you would like to do. The Maven Window opens every month on the 20th and is open for 2-3 days. During this time you can make changes to your preferred box, adds on or cancelling the box for the particular month. However, if you miss the window, you will receive your monthly subscription.

In general I have no problems with the subscription itself and I was always able to cancel a month when I needed. I did not like the fact they did not contact me to verify if my credit card information is correct but at least I know now that they are able to charge me.

Hope this short review was helpful to you guys. Let me know, if you are Julep Mavens and how you like the subscription and if you are not, if you are thinking about signing up for it. I will talk to you all soon. Please also check out my other online homes and subscriptions and if you are interested in any of them, make sure you use the attached links below.
